Climate change

I was surprised why, at the ABS-CBN’s vice presidential debate, Senator Loren Legarda was being asked what was so important about climate change that she focused on it as her campaign thrust. Why not focus on the economy, on graft and corruption? It seems not too many people are aware of the consequences of environmental degradation, and the need for governmental intervention on climate change. If highly educated candidates are not cognizant of the challenge of climate-related destruction, how much more the poor, who do not see the connection between climate change and gnawing poverty? The more that the deprived sector needs to be informed, and helped, in understanding what to some seems irrelevant, unnecessary, and not affecting the voting populace. Read the rest of this entry »

WHO: Condoms prevent HIV/AIDS spread

For people and institutions that believe condoms are evil and cannot stop the spread of HIV/AIDs, let them listen to what the World Health Organization says. The STAR issue of Tuesday (March 23, page 6) stated that condoms could prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and other specially transmitted diseases. This report came on the heels of condom-oppositor rejection of the latex device as being too fragile to prevent infection and conception, and demand to have Health Secretary Esperanza Cabral resign her post for supporting the distribution of free condoms on the eve of Valentine’s Day to raise awareness of the dreaded disease.
