Typhoon victims, workers and families helped through TUCP relief and medical missions

10 October 2009. –Close to 4,000 union members/families affected by the flooding caused by typhoon “Ondoy” within Metro Manila and nearby towns have received so far relief packages of rice, instant noodles and canned groceries from TUCP. Around 1,000 families have been seen by doctors in a series of medical missions done by the Center.

Over 5,000 members of the TUCP and their families had been laid off as of October 10, 2009 due to closure of factories damaged by the typhoon. A series of relief and medical missions are held as TUCP’s contribution to help affected workers and their families pick up the pieces after the devastation.

The operation is supported by the International Trade Union Confederation-Asia Pacific (ITUC-AP) and the Japanese Trade Union Confederation (JTUC-RENGO).
